Weekends. What a false illusion of happiness. So much to do, yet so little time to do it all in. Relax? Sleep? Ha! I'm afraid not, my friends. Nonetheless, I tinkered some with this website. If I find some time tomorrow then I'll work more on content and the little things that still need to be taken care of. I keep saying it but this website is really gonna rock, come a few weeks from now. For instance, I plan to have a little guy that appears randomly throughout the site. <I>"Hey, Look! There's a little guy in there!"</I> (Spinaltap, eh?) Anyway, when you find this guy who only appears every so often, you can click him and go to some riddle or puzzle where you can win stuff. I'm still working on exactly what you could win and how I would subsidize it. I'm not exactly a corporate site, as you might have guessed. &lt;grin&gt; Anyway, on to bed. I'm sick. This Spring Break is definetly one of my worst ever, all I've been doing is going to different hospitals and getting poked by tons of needles. I have something weird, almost like reoccuring strokes. Every other morning or so I wake up cold and tinglely with half of my body nearly-paralyzed and I'm unable to speak. However, it's not a stroke and I've taken a bunch of blood tests and tests where you go into a long tube (CAT scan, MRA, MRI ...) and everything says I'm perfect, yet I'm still waking up all gimpy. *sigh* Who knows. This is depressing.

This whole college search thing sucks. I've been rejected to every college that I'd originally wanted to go to: Stanford, MIT, and now UC Berkeley. Suck, suck! If I was dumb or something I wouldn't really mind so much. The thing that irritates me is that I've been working my ass off for 12 years and doing lots of extracurricular programs and projects and yet I wasn't able to communicate it and show it in my essays. Ahh!

I got glasses for the first time in my life. I'm only supposed to wear them for reading and using the computer but they don't seem to help much. In fact, they kinda hurt my eyes. This doesn't seem quite right. Plus there's all that stupid dark circle going around your vision and there's crap all over the lens and the fuzzy area around the outside. Glasses suck. Before this I've always had 20/20 vision... what happened? *sigh*

Insanity and Chaos

I'm awake an hour early this fine Friday morning. My stupid medical condition, still a mystery to doctors, woke me up. At 6:00 my whole body started tingling a little. It's not as bad as it used to be but these occasionally funky attacks still wake me up in the morning, especially when I don't sleep much the night before. Anyway, now I have time to do some homework. School. Now there's the insanity. I have a bunch of tests to make up and they're all hanging over my head: a Hamlet essay and two calculus tests. The pathetic thing is that I don't skip class or anything to miss these tests, it's that I'm gone on band competitions or doing something with drama or at doctor's appointments. *sigh* I think there's only around 23 days of school left. I can't wait.

This sucks, I'm getting all sick again. Elisa, one of my <A HREF="/brad/friends.bml">friends</A>, came over before and we were doing calculus and physics homework and my legs and arms were all falling asleep. Now it's getting even worse. We went running after finishing the calculus thinking we needed to get back in shape and it'd help move my blood around but now it's coming back again and coming back stronger than it has in quite a few days. The other symptoms are present as well.... tired, a headache is coming on, kinda shaky arms/legs, etc... This really sucks. I'm going to take a nap now, if I can, and I'll see how I'm feeling when I wake up. I thought this bitch medical condition (still nameless because the doctors haven't a clue what it is) would go away. I hope I figure it out before I leave for (=AWAYLINK http://www.washington.edu|college AWAYLINK=).

A reason for Brad's sickness?

As you may or may not know, I've been seriously sick with some really weird severe conditions for awhile now. It seems to be fading away now but I think we've finally figured out what caused it all. (yeah yeah... i know... we've had a lot of other guesses but his one actually makes sense and doesn't have so many unknowns...) See, we're in a new house, just built. Not everything is finished; some non-critical stuff like the yard and deck and air conditioning is fully complete. The air conditioner/heater people were in just before I had my first severe attack to adjust some ducts and charge our air conditioner up with Freon. We went to turn the system on the other day, when it was all hot in the 80's and stuff, and found that it didn't work. The Freon had all leaked out. We researched Freon 22 and found out that it's really bad stuff to get in contact with. The symptoms were nearly identical to what I'd been experiencing. But why hadn't Ryan and Cole been affected when they are about the same distance from the furnace room? First off, neither of them live in their room... Cole is upstairs playing his baseball game in the computer room and Ryan is watching TV on the big TV most the time. Second, when they <I>are</I> in their rooms, they have their windows and doors open and use that for air flow and ventilation and stuff. I, on the other hand, live in my room, close my windows and doors, and open my vent thing (which my desk and computer are right under). So, I would be in contact with it the most. Another interesting thing is that for a long time my family had been saying my room stunk and wondered if I had been keeping food in my desk drawers or something. That was probably the Freon, the weird gassy smell that I lived in for a week or so. So, that's our latest theory. We emailed the doctor and we'll see what he says. I'll post the news.

Ping Pong and 5 Pizzas

What happened today? Well, two interesting things, really. I got two new things: First, my parents went out and bought a ping-pong table. Ryan and I and well, our whole family, loves ping-pong. We always played it when we went on (=AL http://www.royalcaribbean.com/|cruises AL=) except on the ship the table is ever so slightly swaying the whole time. Anyway..... The second thing I got was a raffle prize item: 5 free large pizzas at a local pizza place. Our band was doing a silent auction fund raiser thing and my mom bought us all tickets. I showed up for the free food and then a bunch of us all took off to go rent (=AL http://us.imdb.com/Title?Fear+of+a+Black+Hat+(1993)|Fear of a Black Hat AL=) after we noticed the silent auction was actually pretty lame. Anyway, my mom came home later and told me I won and gave me my free pizza coupons. Right on. (=GRIN=) That's about it. At nine or so everyone came over and we watched the movie.

A Late Weekend

It's Monday now. Monday morning, anyway. So really late Sunday night. That's kind of stupid how midnight is the turnover point for new days. It makes it so hard to describe half my life, seeing as how I'm always up so late. Anyway, why didn't Brad post any news over the weekend? Brad was busy. I stayed up late Friday getting around four hours of sleep until I had to wake up early Saturday and go to the state band competition down at OSU. That lasted most the day and we got back to Beaverton around 4:00. Prom was Saturday night and I was supposed to be at this other girl's house for pictures at 4:00. I got ready really quick and was able to make the 5:30 dinner reservations. (wait... does anyone care?) Yeah, so prom was cool... very cool. I went with a <A HREF="/brad/friends.bml">friend of mine</A>, Heather Whitten, and had a blast. Afterwards we all went to one of the girl's houses that was in our group and bummed around and hung out and watched a movie until the wee hours of the night 'till we were all falling sleep. 'Twas cool. Sunday I slept in until 1:30 or so in the afternoon and then Mike, Jeff, and Anil came over to work on a group project that was due on Tuesday. We finished it a few minutes ago. We love doing this crap... we make multimedia presentations and out-do the class totally, usually tricking the teacher into ignoring that we don't have any content and only did a bunch of cool special effects and stuff. Scary thing was that we actually had some content this time. Oh no! (=GRIN=) Anyway, I'm tired so I'm outta here.

AP Calc or Seinfeld?

Tonight I had a choice... was I going to study for the AP Calculus test tomorrow, or was I going to watch 2 hours of Seinfeld? (including the pre-show hype and commercials, of course... ::rolls eyes::) Well, I watched the damn show. I almost wished I hadn't now. It wasn't all that great. Sure, there were a few okay spots, but it didn't compare to some of the better episodes. I think I was laughing more in the 45 minutes before the show actually started than during the extended episode itself. I should've just taped it. (at the cost of being let out of the wonderful <I>water-cooler talk</I> about it tomorrow) I guess it doesn't matter that I didn't study for the AP test because I got it all down pretty cold anyway. I'll study for a few minutes here before I go to bed. If the test was in the afternoon I wouldn't have a problem with it at all but instead they start it at 7:30 in the morning, about the time I normally wake up. Ah! That sucks. Night everyone.....

Taurus-Mobile Now Shared

My brother Ryan got his license the other day, Friday I think it was. At first I thought it wouldn't matter <I>too</I> much but now I'm finding it's really annoying. He shares our third-teen-kid car with me (the red 1989 Taurus-mobile) and he's driving it everywhere, just for fun. I told him he could have one free tank of gas and after that we're logging miles or something.... no way in hell I'm paying for his gas. Oh well, I'll be off to college pretty soon. Better pump up the air in my bike tires.... (=GRIN=)

No More Injections

Yesterday was officially my last day that I needed to go to the hospital and get injections. For nearly two or more months I went in everyday and got those blood thinning shots and it took an hour or so out of my day... but now I'm done! Mwa hah hah!! It's not like I even need the shot; the days that I skipped the shot (usually on the weekends because I was busy) I actually felt better... I didn't get the weird skin-tingling hyperalgesia stuff. What a relief. I got sick of being in traffic every day. Now I can sleep or work on my website or something. Woo-hoo!

Fever

Done with school, baby. Oh yeah. Now all I have to do is sit back and relax and laugh at my brother who is still in school for a few more weeks. <TT>&gt;;D</TT> I'm looking forward to this summer. On June 14th my friends and I are all packing up and taking a road trip down I-5 from Portland all the way south into L.A. We're going to hit a bunch of amusement/water parks and such. I think the most excitement though will be going in Garrett's P.O.S. van. I'll be surprised if we even make it the whole way without the thing blowing up or falling apart. After "The Road Trip" I begin my job at Intel. That'll be fun. I'll post more news later but for now I'm off to enjoy a little summer!

Relatives & Graduation

Twelve of my relatives from Iowa are currently visiting. There are four grandparents, three aunts, two uncles, and three little kids... all here for my graduation ceremony coming up on Tuesday and all currently living in our house. In addition to our five, that's 17 people in our house! Every room in occupied, including the guest room and part of my mom's shop which we partioned off into a temporary bedroom. My brother Ryan and I are sleeping in the upstairs computer room and my brother Cole is sleeping in my parents room. All our rooms, downstairs, have other people in them. As a result, Ryan and I can't get to our computers as often. We can access all our files and such over the network but it's tedious to get all our program settings working from these other computers. If I'm slow responding to something, it's because I'm either busy or away from a computer, perhaps out sight-seeing with the relatives or whatnot.

Beach and Stuff

Today kicked ass. (=FR nickrobertson|Nick FR=), (=FR anilnaik|Anil FR=), (=FR jeffoliver|Oliver FR=), (=FR mikesheley|Mike FR=), Yuki, (=FR heatherwhitten|Heather FR=) and I all drove down to the beach and hung out most the day. We left at 10:30. Mike drove Yuki, the exchange student living at his house, and Anil. Oliver drove Nick, Heather and I. We listened to a bunch of cool music going down there. I brought along my camera and got lots of good pictures. We had a blast. We ate at McDonalds the way into town because Heather was "starving". I had my first McFlurry... they're pretty good. On the beach we played volleyball and baseball and frisbee and just dorked around. It was cool. Heather and I wanted to go jump waves but before changing we decided to go feel the water. Nick decided to run out behind us and throw Heather down into the water (which, as always, was ice cold). At that point I just jumped in with her and we swam around in our clothes. Nick came in too. After going numb, it actually felt really nice. Heather was always getting knocked over by the waves so we had to watch her and make sure she didn't drown. Nick later dressed up in some of Heather's extra clothes because he didn't bring any himself. He looked like such a girl. (yes, we got pictures..) Let's see... what else? Buried Mike. Laid in sun. Got really red/tan/dark/burnt. Ate at Subway leaving the place (Nick made an ass of himself there too). Slept on way home. Heather came over afterwards. I don't care to right much more anymore than you do to read it so I'll stop now. In conclusion, it all rocked. (=GRIN=)

Site Crash

My web hoster, the people who maintain bradfitz.com's server, crashed yesterday. Their hard drive crashed and all the information on bradfitz.com was lost. You'd think they'd have a backup but they don't. Anyway, I'm currently rebuilding as much of it as I can from a bunch of other people's brower caches. Still, there are a lot of parts that I'm missing. I still had all the pages on my local computer, I'm just missing all the dynamic data that was only on the server.

Well, I'm off for California now. Well, my friends and I are back from our California trip. We're all dead tired so I think I'm going to sleep now. We took some 250 pictures or so on my digital camera. I think later on, when I've slept a little, I'll create a "travels" section of my website with reviews and pictures of places I've traveled. Well, I started my first day at Intel today. It was fun... sitting through a bunch of introductory meetings and such. Oh boy. Anyway, I should sleep tonight so I'm fairly rested for my second day at work, where I'll actually be with my group. It should be pretty cool... I can't wait to get my own cubicle again. I kinda got attached to my one at Tektronix when I worked there two summers ago... it becomes like your second home. Windows 98

Well, I got Windows 98. There're things that are mildly annoying about it and then there're some things that are really damn cool. I've been working to turn off all the annoying crap but it's not so much of a problem... I know I'll get it all disabled eventually. For now though, let me tell you the coolest parts of Windows 98. No, not the shaded title bars, not FAT 32, not those damn tooltips flying in everywhere.... No, I like two things in particular. One, the Scheduled Tasks folder under My Computer lets you run any arbitrary job at any scheduling pattern. Windows has needed this for awhile and finally it works decently. The other cool thing, which comes with the plus pack, is the Deluxe CD Player. Instead of just remembering the album/title/track information that you enter, it goes out and grabs it from the net for you. Has Microsoft just realized that there are people that are connected to the net all the time who would benefit from such features? Anyway, there's a lot more little cool things than that but for now, I'm going to go play again...

A Very Good Day

Today is a good day. I thought it might kind of suck, but it turned out to be a really cool. See, I missed my college math placement test two weeks ago. The first one that I could go walk in as a stand-by was today, up in Vancouver. I drove up there, got there about an hour early, and sat around waiting. People soon began to arrive and I began talking to (=FR maranatha|this one girl FR=) there, she seemed pretty cool. When the doors opened and we were let in, I had to fill out a stand-by card. After that I sat by her and we talked some more. They later moved everyone around so we couldn't sit close to anyone else. The test was really easy. After it was over I waited up for this girl outside to talk to her. We ended up going out to eat afterwards and talking and stuff. She's pretty cool... gonna major in Computer Engineering, valedictorian, cheerleader, cute, funny, wants to work in Intel (hey! I work there! &lt;grin&gt;). Best part is, she’s going to University of Washington also, and if she doesn’t get into the sorority that she wants, she’ll probably be in the same dorm as me! Anyway, I got her name and email address. Hopefully I’ll see her around when school starts in the fall. She seems like a really cool person. Well, if that wasn’t enough excitement for one day, we all went and played Ultimate Frisbee and soccer at the park later. And after that I picked up a <A HREF="/slurpees/">Slurpee</A>, with perfect texture! Things couldn’t get much better.

It's Friday night and there's nothing to do. Everyone is either doing nothing or doing something stupid. (=FR nickrobertson|Nick FR=) came over with some CDs I wanted to borrow and we ended up going to get a movie, which wasn't there, to then going down to (=FR mikesheley|Mike FR=)'s, but he was playing <I>board games</I>, so then we went to (=FR heatherwhitten|Heather FR=)'s, but once Nick and I go to Heather's we never find anything to do. Anyway, we drove around for awhile before deciding to go get <A HREF="/slurpees/">Slurpees</A>. Now we have our Slurpees and I've set up Heather's older sister's computer so it can get on the Internet. Her sister's at work now and I'm in her room writing up this wonderfully retarded journal/news entry thing while Nick and Heather are down the block playing in the park. Guess I'll go down there and see what's up. Oh boy, how fun. I really need to figure out what to do on weekends.

My Day

What did I do today? Not a whole helluva lot, actually. I woke up around noon or so when (=FR colefitz|Cole FR=) woke me up asking permission to go to a friend's house (I was suppose to be watching him) and then I kinda stumbled around the house for awhile half-dressed looking for food and a clue as to what to do. The other day I got a new CD-ROM drive after I cracked the tray of my old one. The old cracked one still works, I just have to hold the tray up as it goes in. Hmm.... guess that's what you get for putting your feet up on it as a foot-rest. (I forgot it was out and I meant to put my feet up on my case) Anyway, my new CD-ROM is trayless (just a slot, like in a car CD player) so I can't break it. It's kinda cool having two CD-ROMs in your system... you can do fun things like be lazy and keep an audio CD in at the same time as a clip-art CD. (then again, I could always get off my ass and walk over to my 5-disk changer, but then I wouldn't have (=AL http://www.cddb.com/|CDDB AL=) support...) Anyway, around 2:00 or so I listened to some (=AL http://www.mp3.com/|MP3 AL=) files I had encoded last night and decided the sound quality sucked. I downloaded another encoder and decided to do it again. However, I had deleted the huge WAV files from the original CDs I had ripped so I had to rip 'em again. It went pretty quick with my new CD-ROM but afterwards I had to begin the slow process of encoding the WAVs into MP3s. I set four of our computers to the task, each handling five songs or so. Their ETA's all read about 10:30 so I decided I should go do something and not sit around starting at really slow progress bars. I ended up going swimming over at Cole's friend Carter's with (=FR ryanfitz|Ryan FR=). I love swimming. As cool as it is though, it gets boring after awhile and we went home. (We threw Ashley in the pool first... that was fun) So, now I am many hours later and there's still not much to do. I've fiddled with my website some but haven't done anything too extensive. Tomorrow I go up to Seattle for my (=AL http://www.washington.edu/|UW AL=) orientation. I guess I get to pick my classes and stuff. Fun, fun. Anyway, I'll probably login from there and post some more news. For now, though, I'm going to bed. Night.

The Plan

I went to bed around three or four last night, only to be woken up this morning for church. Grrrr.... Anyway, now I'm home, after perhaps the most boring mass ever. I'm preparing to leave for Seattle now. I have to wait for my laundry to dry and then I'm packing up and taking off. I'm bring my handheld computer and my portable network card so I'll try to get online in the dorms tonight, just for fun. Well, I made it... I survived my very first solo voyage from Portland to Seattle. Too bad they closed off a large chunk of I-5 north, that made the trip a little more confusing. Still, I made it. I'm currently in a temporary dorm room at (=AL http://www.washington.edu/|University of Washington AL=) where I'll stay two nights (tonight and Monday night) while I'm doing the whole orientation thing, which takes place on Monday and Tuesday. I came up tonight so I didn't have to worry about waking up at 3:00 am or something tomorrow morning and making it up here on time. This way I can bum around today and check out the campus more on my own. There's this one really cool looking strip I wanna go check out in a bit here. First though I think I'm gonna wash up and take a quick nap, I only got to sleep 4 hours last night... not fun. (=GRIN=) Anyway, keep coming back to read more.. I just got back from a <A HREF="/slurpees/">Slurpee</A> run. When I was out driving before on University Way, aka "The Ave", I noticed a 7-11, among other things. I decided to go walk that way (it's only a block off campus, still in the University District). The Ave kicks ass... there's just tons of crap: food places, video places, music places, arcades, computer stores, whatever.. it's just a cool street. Man... busy day. Tons of talks and instruction and walking to more talks and more instruction, all just to learn how to schedule classes, and then having to do it. Ahh! What hell! Trying to get all the classes you want and juggling all their time slots is a pain, not to mention worrying about if the classes you picked are the ones you need for your major and getting into the right programs later. *sigh* Anyway, later things calmed down and we all ate a big barbeque dinner. After that a bunch of us went to a Mariner's game... it was pretty cool, the Mariner's kicked some Texas ass. Now it's night-ish and I'm dead tired. Tomorrow I gotta go talk to the counselor/adviser people about some remaining crap that is yet to be resolved. Oh joy. Night! .....

I'm getting really pissed at technology lately. I've gone through five web hoster now. I thought I found one I liked but this one has a bunch of environment variables that aren't showing up in CGI scripts, at least in certain circumstances. I've mailed tech support with exact details but they ignore me. My answering machine/cordless phone sucked, I returned it. I got a voice modem to computer-ize the whole process. After hours of COM/IRQ configuration I got it working. It sucked too. I love how they ship 16-bit applications and drivers and put a "Works with 95/98/NT" sticker on it to make you think it's current. It was a piece of shit. I returned it today. Windows 98 disabled my computer's ability to show my screen on my TV, thus I can't vcr record presentations/slideshows anymore. Just fixed it today, after a week of screwing with it. All my batteries in my remotes thought it'd be funny to die on me on the same day. My left computer speaker developed a high pitch annoying sound, or is that the ISO mp3 encoders I'm using? Should I use the Franhofer encoders? But I have to pay for that? No way. Found out one of my old webhosters, Prohosting, charged me twice for something, once after I had left their damn company. Thing is, it was their Utah dial-up division that charged me. Hello? WTF? I don't have a dial-up in Utah, I live in Oregon! Things keep getting worse. I'm getting really sick of technology. I just want to go to a tropical island and swim around in warm lagoon waters.

Well, things are pretty much cool. A lot of the stuff pissing me off on the 20th has since been resolved.... I got my TV output working on my video card, I returned a bunch of my stuff and got refunds, I figured out where I had to pick up my paycheck at work, my room is clean, the Voting Booth service I run is back up, things are peaceful. I've been hanging out with (=FR dina|Dina FR=) quite often lately. It's been "fun", to say the least. (=GRIN=) Seriously though, she's a really cool person. Never take someone to be a moron just because all their friends are morons. Figure out for yourself what people are. It may turn out that they actually <I>are</I> stupid, but at least they'd be stupid in their own way. Dina's really interesting... she's been showing me a lot of stuff around downtown and watching a lot of movies 'cause all her friends work at the local video store. More to come on this story later perhaps but for now I'm going to go sleep. I've been getting more and more exhausted as the week progresses. A one hour nap should do the trick. Zzzzzzzz.....

I just went and saw (=AL http://us.imdb.com/Title?BASEketball+(1998)|BASEketball AL=) with my friend (=FR nickrobertson|Nick FR=). I swear, it was one of the funniest damn movies I've ever seen. The theatre was pretty sparsely populated, and only with a bunch of white trash, but it was still a hilarious movie. Go see, it won't let you down. I didn't stop laughing the whole time! At times I was laughing so much that I was trying to point stuff out to Nick but I couldn't get it out. The comedy is so obvious and in-your-face but at the same time there's just all this shit going on in the background that you can easily miss. I'm going to go watch it again later this week.

As I've mentioned before, I was expecting my computer parts order to be in by next Tuesday. However, I got a message today saying it looked like it'd be ready my tomorrow evening... the guy was just waiting on another person's confirmation. I was pumped. Computer tomorrow?!? Rock on. However, got an email back a few minutes later saying he'd called the distributor and they were out of a few things. Bummer. Anyway, they are <I>supposed</I> to have it all in by Monday now. We shall see. On the plus side, though, I picked up my network card today. I love how hardware is sold these days. The card came in a little plastic carton---nothing else. No papers, instructions, drivers, not even a box. (=GRIN=) All I'm waiting for now is my case, motherboard, monitor, soundcard, hard disk, and miscellaneous wires and stuff. I have my CD-ROM, DVD-ROM, video card, (=AL http://www.superdisk.com/|LS-120 AL=) floppy, and speakers. The speakers are nice, I just wish I could start playing with more of it already.

Installation a Breeze

Aside from a few bitchy little warnings and stumblings, my computer setup and software installation all went pretty nice. I'm really impressed with how little I had to do. Plug & Play is actually useful now. It only took them a few generations to do it but it's worth it now. I shoved all the parts on the motherboard and in the case, hooked up a few wires, and powered it up. Windows 98 caught most the devices and pretty much configured them how I wanted. I still had to dink with a lot of stuff, as I'm sure I'll being doing for quite some time still, but it was all a lot less painful than I thought. More info will come as the system is more fully together.

Well, my computer is just about put together and working. I should get the AWE64 sound card today after work, if they're in. I also need to pick up some audio cables for connecting my CD-ROM drive to my soundcard and an audio patch cable from my DVD-ROM's decoder card to the soundcard. After those two things, all I need to worry about is getting a new monitor. I got the <A HREF="/reviews/review.bml?magdj800">MAG DJ800 19" but I hate it</A>. I might've gotten a defective one or something but for all I can tell it just plain sucks. It's blurry as hell on text and there are little lines all over. I've checked and rechecked my drivers and refresh rates dozens of times but the monitor gimps in all resolutions and refresh rates. Anyway, if you know of a good 19" monitor, let me know!

I went to bed at 12:15 last night and woke up this morning at 3:30. That's 3 hours and 15 minutes of sleep. Not fun. I couldn't go to bed because I was itching all over. This medication I'm on (or shall I say, <I>was</I> on, because I'm going to stop taking it now) made my skin really pealy and sensitive. When I went camping the other day I must've got a little too much sun, which I'm supposed to avoid altogether, and now I itch all over. I've been up ever since 3:30 this morning. At 4:00 I took a bath. At 6:30 I took a shower. I rolled around on the carpet, wrapped up in fuzzy blankets. I wore sweatpants, jeans, whatever; I tried everything. This itch sucks. It's 11:30 now and it's starting to slightly fade away. Medicine sucks. We need to find a way to directly access the brain and avoid this intermediary medicine crap. If we could access the brain we could just say, "Hey Brain! Go fix this part, do this, do that, ignore this pain/itch sensation, it's not important; now, go send this sort of cell bodies over to this part of the body, clean this part out, etc, etc..." I don't really like the idea of screwing with nature, but I think screwing with the brain would be a lot cooler/useful than medicine and all its quirky side-effects.

Yeah, so I got some free tickets, that's why we're going. And I suppose because it's cool. It was a wonderful presentation with a bunch of people speaking, including a few from Intel regarding what Intel is doing/can do to help The Linux Community, Linus talking about the changes in the (=AL http://www.kernel.org/|2.0 to 2.2 kernel AL=) and a marketing guy from (=AL http://www.redhat.com/|Red Hat AL=) giving out free stuff and telling stories. Woo-hoo! Another weekend hath arriveth. I was going to do a news entry earlier in the week but I never really got around to it. (=FR dina|Dina FR=) came up Wednesday... that was cool. We watched a bunch of TV... the new Dawson's Creek and Charmed on "the WB". After watching all the TV it was late and the weather was bad so we decided it would be <I>unsafe</I> for her to drive two and half hours home to Portland so she just <I>had</I> to spend the night instead. Bummer, huh? Other than that, not much exciting has happened this week. School is going good. <A HREF="/brad/classes.bml">Classes</A> are still pretty easy. Got a perfect on my first math quiz, wrote a program to help me memorize Spanish vocab, been programming some stuff to let me graph/animate functional planes and vectors in 3D space. What else? Are you tired? I'm tired. As much as I like this rainy shit weather here in Seattle, it does have a get-back-in-bed-and-sleep effect on you. I figure your body's logic is as follows: it's rainy and cold out, therefore you must wear comfy, warm clothes. Because you're wearing comfy, warm clothes, you feel like sleeping. Because you sleep, you sleep too much and you feel more tired. In any case, I'm sitting in my dorm room now and it's raining outside and I'm in comfy warm clothes. I keep going back to my pillow and pulling myself up every five minutes, telling myself I should do my ten minutes of homework. Maybe I should just do it.

(=FR scout|Scout FR=), a friend of mine from Florida, wrote me today telling me that it was about time for a news entry. Okay, okay, here's a news entry: Hmm. Uhh.... Okay, here's something interesting. I'm moving <B>bradfitz.com</B> to a new server. They're a lot more capable, friendly, and knowledgable. They're also a lot more costly. Still, I'd rather have my site sitting in a place I trust. I'll write up a <A HREF="/reviews/">review</A> of all my past providers one of these days. What's this now... number six? Ugh. "And how's school, Brad?" Oh yes, just dandy. Math is awesome. It's pretty easy and I'm having fun with it. Two quizzes so far, 100% on both of them. Two down, five to go. (and 3 tests, and a final, but we can ignore those for now, right?) "What about your other <A HREF="/brad/classes.bml">classes</A>?" Murder is okay. Spanish is time-consuming. Lots of homework. Weekend In Review

This is going to be a really brief overview of stuff and this weekend. Much happened. Notably, (=FR dina|Dina FR=) came up and spent the weekend. And yes, parents, she slept in my room, and yes parents, (=FR mikerode|Mike FR=) (my roommate) slept over with (=FR eli|Eli FR=) and (=FR marcus|Marcus FR=). And yes, parents, Dina and I were somewhat good and responsible. Still, who cares. What else happened? In addition to (=FR mikerode|Mike FR=) and Dina, I hung out with Eli and Marcus a bunch. We all went to a Pink Floyd laser light show downtown Seattle. It kicked ass. Eli and I went on a bike ride today over to (=FR ryanhofer|Ryan Hofer's FR=) college. We hit a 7-11 over there but the <A HREF="/slurpees/">Slurpees</A> were just terrible. And we've all been eating a lot of ice cream up at Café Terré (non-fat, so it's good for you! heh). The place isn't <I>really</I> called Café Terré, but we like to call it that. It's just the cafeteria that's in the Terry dorm a block above us. There isn't a cafeteria in our dorm. The only food is the Pop Tarts that I've been microwaving to a soggy perfection each morning. Eli has a toaster though. I should go microwave my stuff over there. I've been fixing a bunch of people's computers around here. What's new? And my roommate's computer is still fucked. We FDISK'd the whole thing to eliminate some legacy device drivers we couldn't kill but now because his floppy drive is bad we can't even get it to load MSCDEX to get DOS talking to his Toshiba CD-ROM to re-install Windows 95. Pain in the ass. All the king's horse, and all the king's men, couldn't put Mike's computer back together again. So we're working on that still. And my new provider for bradfitz.com has some problems. What's new? They're good at some stuff but their mSQL database seems hell of slow. That cuts a bunch of the fun stuff I like to do with tying the web and database servers together. You get the slowest of the two... not good. Well, that's it. Brief, wasn't it? I should clean my room. This place is getting messy. And I have a LOT of laundry to do. I keep putting it off. It's been nice all weekend. You wanna bet that it rains tomorrow? We'll see. Night!

Studying is the part that I don't like. You can do your homework and just be done with it but you can never really <I>finish</I> studying. You can always do it a little bit longer. The solution? "What's going up with Brad?" you ask. Well, not much. I went to my first UW football game today, against the Oregon State Beavers. Being from Oregon myself, I kinda felt a little attachment, but I was still rooting for the Huskies all the way! We won, 35-34, but only by sheer luck. We kicked ass in the first half but let ourselves get trampled on at the end. OSU could have easily kicked a field goal and tied it and gone into overtime, but they chose to go for the two pointer and messed it up. But, I doubt you really care. What's going on with <I>me</I>, though, and not my school's football team? Well, I have a shitload of homework, studying, and reading in each of <A HREF="/brad/classes.bml">my classes</A>. Math midterms are Monday, as well as a big Spanish quiz. I'm not scared about math, as I've gotten perfects on all the quizzes so far. Spanish is just memorization (read: time consuming). Murder is where all my reading is at. Damn humanities classes. (=GRIN=) What else? Oh, the <A HREF="/vote/">Voting Booth</A> service is back up again. Between his dad shipping him a new harddrive and me screwing with it for a few hours, it's finally all happy. His network works, his video card works, his CD-ROM almost works. Things are good. So, what does this have to do with Brad and why should it appear on bradfitz.com? Because now I get my computer back! Actually, Mike wasn't so bad, but he liked to write really long email messages, and now he can---on <I>his</I> computer. What's in store for <A HREF="/brad/computer.bml">Brad's computer</A>? I'm getting a SCSI card so I can get another hard drive and a new CD-RW drive. All my IDE cables are used. Fun fun.

Have my Murder midterm on Friday, everybody says it's easy if you go to all the lectures and do most the readings, cool. Have a fairly large paper due next Tuesday, have to finish it in the next few days here because I'm going to be gone this weekend. I'm going down to University of Oregon on a roadtrip with some friends from my floor. Gonna stop at home too, pick up some stuff. What else? Oh yeah, really tired. Need to sleep more often. I just woke up from a bitchin' nap and I'm really hungry. Going to go snag some food now. Should work on that paper tonight.

Last Friday I forgot to post my weekend plans. Five of us from my floor went down to University of Oregon to watch the Husky/Ducks game. We had a hell of a time catching trains and buses and cars ... we almost didn't make it. In the end, though, it kicked ass. Sunday. How fun. Sunday night, to be specific. Even more fun. I went and saw (=AL http://us.imdb.com/Title?Waterboy,+The+(1998)|The Waterboy AL=) yesterday with (=FR marcus|Marcus FR=) and (=FR eli|Eli FR=). That was pretty cool. Did some homework today. Been struggling to get the <A HREF="/vote/">Voting Booth</A> up and running. When the database isn't dead I can make a good $20-$25 dollars per day in ad revenues. If I don't get that money, I don't get to keep this site for free. Besides, I like running that service... it's fun. The database seems to be dying for some reason or another. It could be because it sucks, or it could be because it can't handle 7 requests/second. I dunno. (=GRIN=) In any case, I'm going to get a faster, more robust database server running on it pretty soon. The tech support people at (=AL http://www.virtualis.com/|Virtualis AL=) have been wonderful. Hmmm... I think I'm going to take an hour nap and wake up to do some homework. I don't even have anything due tomorrow, I just wanna eliminate some of it to make this week easier. Wow... it's been a long time since I last posted news, about a month ago. Anyway, winter quarter is just about coming to a close. Finals are about to begin. I'll be home in Oregon in about a week and a half. My last final is on the 17th. I registered for spring quarter classes already. Even though I got all the <A HREF="/brad/classes.bml">classes</A> I wanted, I got the worst possible times in everything. I'm now considered a sophomore because of credits I'd got on AP tests, and sophomores register last. Great. Well, I should do homework or something. It's such a wonderful day today, though. It's sunny for the first time in a <I>long</I> time. Can't wait for Spring Break... going to Mexico. That should be fun.
